Our flight was cancelled due to low cloud at the airport and we were told we had to wait 6 days! Lots of frustration and phone calls to Virgin and after we had resigned to the fact that we had no control over the situation we received an 11th hour call to tell us to get to the airport ASAP... The pilot on the Saturday plane had allowed 5 extra passengers and we got on!! A miracle, and now we don't need to cancel all our school, medical, and dental appointments.
This blog is about life onboard SV Moana Roa, a 46 foot sailing catamaran, and the journey from the Caribbean back to Australia. Laurie and Sonia, Travis, Beau, and Kara leave home on Christmas Island (Australian Indian Ocean Territories) in December 2012 and set sail in January 2013.

What will we do without crabs?
The spectacular annual Red Crab Migration is a sight to behold, but Sonia says we have unfinished business on the island as we missed the spawning last year and will miss it again this year
The boats will keep coming...
Another asylum-seeker boat arrives, this one from Sri Lanka, 3000 nautical miles and about 3 weeks on the Indian Ocean

Paddling accomplishment
Sonia and 3 others got in a 22km paddle to West White Beach and back before the swell season... that's almost one third the way around the island!

A lasting impression!
Jon Faulkner's awesome pic of a whale shark with Tuna chasing massive bait balls... Our first and last impressions of CI are the whalesharks. What a privilege it's been to swim with them.
